Rianara Reh lights up Mosaic
Mosaic Associates is pleased to welcome 2009 Summer Intern Rinara Reh to the firm. Rinara is currently a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and is pursuing both her Bachelors degree in Architecture as well as her Masters degree in Lighting. Rinara has been named to the Dean’s List at RPI for all semesters, and is also a scholarship member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. A native of Ufa, Russia and fluent in Russian and English, Rinara came to the United States in 2003 to work, travel, and pursue her college studies. She is also currently a member of the Russian Club at RPI.
While at Mosaic, Rinara will be assisting LEED Accredited Professional and Associate John Onderdonk in the development of sustainable design and daylighting models for current projects, as well as researching daylight modeling software and techniques. Mosaic Associates is pleased to announce that Architectural Designer Callie Gaspary, Architectural Designer Matt Gaspary and Senior Project Manager Kersten Lorcher are the latest staff to successfully complete all of the Online Training Courses provided by the New York State Collaborative for High Performance Schools (NYS CHPS), bringing the total number of NYS CHPS staff to fourteen.
Developed by the New York State Energy Research Development Authority, the NYS CHPS Online Training Courses are offered to design and engineering professionals specializing in sustainable design for K-12 schools. The training consists of 25 individual courses ranging in topics from Design Criteria to Building Commissioning, and teach high performance school design as an integration of daylighting, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency to build schools that run efficiently, save money, protect natural resources, and provide superior visual, acoustical, and thermal comfort. Congratulations to all our CHPS Trainees!

Beauty abounds at hanapanek.com
Mosaic Associates congratulates Partner Hana Panek on the success of her own website, www.hanapanek.com, which beautifully showcases the numerous paintings she has created over the years. Hana’s works of art are primarily watercolor and acrylic, with occasional pieces done in oil, and often using mixed media and collage. Her images range from brilliant landscapes painted “au plein air”, to experimental abstracts completed in studio.
Hana’s paintings are held in private collections in several states and overseas, as well as exhibited in many group shows and galleries, garnering numerous awards. Everyone at Mosaic wishes Hana much success as she continues her artistic pursuits!

Kersten Lorcher captures "beautiful little bits of time" on film
Mosaic congratulates Senior Project Manager and photographer Kersten Lorcher on his new body of photographic work currently on display at The National Upholstering Gallery and Design Studio at 231 Lark Street in Albany. The exhibit opened June 5th as part of Albany’s 1st Friday initiative administered by the Upstate Artists Guild, which aims to introduce a wider audience to the unique vitality of Capital District artists and venues of Albany. The exhibit will remain in place from June 5th through July 30th.
Kersten relates that the images on display were taken with a special camera, which puts 4 separate images taken 1 second apart onto one piece of film, resulting in “beautiful little bits of time”. Very beautiful work indeed!

On Saturday, June 6th, Mosaic’s long-time client Shenendehowa Central School District celebrated the grand opening of their Aquatics Center located at the Gowana Middle School. The celebration included a dedication ceremony, ribbon cutting, swimming relays and diving exhibitions, as well as a special “Pouring of Waters.”

The Pouring of Waters signified the blending of Shen’s swimming history into their future triumphs. Having practiced at various swimming facilities over the years, members of the swim team poured twelve buckets of each body of water into their new pool as a way of paying homage for their past accomplishments.

Our firm was recently selected by the State University Construction Fund to provide design services for renovations to Sanford Hall at SUNY Delhi. The project involves complex renovations and includes exterior envelope repairs, ADA accessibility, and lighting and HVAC systems replacements. The project is expected to start immediately and is being led by Partner, Hana Panek.

Mosaic Associates Inspired By Capital Region Miracle League
Executive Administrator Kathy Kirsch and the entire Mosaic firm are excited to be part of the team of supporters who assisted the Capital Region Miracle League in making the Jaime Adams Field in the East Greenbush, NY town park a reality. This field is the first multi-sport Miracle League field in New York State, and hosts baseball, football, soccer and track & field for the Capital Region’s special needs-athletes within a 100 mile radius of East Greenbush. The Capital Region Miracle League officially opened Jaime Adams Field on May 16, 2009. Best Wishes!

Mosaic Project Manager Deborah Dunn and a number of fellow Patriot Hills of NY Executive Committee members recently volunteered their time to answer phones at the March 14th and March 21st pledge drive telethons for public TV station WMHT. The Patriot Hills of NY Committee is dedicated to developing the very first Not for Profit recreational resort and wellness center for the transition, reintegration and therapeutic healing of veterans. This facility will be located in New York State. Deborah serves as Chairwoman of the Site Selection Committee. For more information on Patriot Hills, go to www.patriothills.org.
