Scotia-Glenville CSD High School, Middle School, Elementary School Renovation
Scotia, New York
Scotia-Glenville Middle School’s original library was an open space surrounded by a ring of classrooms. Bookshelves were the only thing that separated library users from foot traffic through the building.
Because of traffic disruptions, lack of natural light and poor ventilation, it just was not conducive to learning. The configuration did not make the best use of the library’s footprint.
Library renovation design solution
Mosaic’s design solution was to enclose the central area and redefine it as a Library Media Center illumined by day with expansive skylights. Space was arranged for a general instruction area, a computer lab, an office and a multi-media conference room. There was enough room left for three alternate classrooms, two computer labs and the network operating center for the Middle School. A new HVAC system makes it a comfortable learning environment year round.×
