Faced with outdated building systems, energy inefficiency and a lack of identity, the renovation of Sanford Hall will create a modern image befitting a college of technology, and provide a meaningful purpose for the 47,000 s.f. academic building, built in 1964.

Working with representatives from SUCF and the campus, Mosaic is developing conceptual designs to create an exciting new look for Sanford Hall including upgrades to the building's interior finishes, exterior envelope and re-purposing of the original library wing.  Architecturally, Sanford Hall will represent the vision for the future of the campus.

The original library wing will be converted into a large, high-tech classroom featuring tiered seating and capable of providing group learning opportunities.  Two smaller group classrooms will also be located in this wing.   All classrooms will maximize natural views, appropriate day-lighting and benefit from modern glazing technology for visual comfort.

Sustainability is a primary goal throughout this renovation and the project anticipates achieving LEED Silver Certification.  Some of these features include improved occupant comfort through natural day-lighting, fine tuning of artificial lighting where appropriate, improved indoor air quality (IAQ), HVAC system efficiency, a high albedo roof to reduce heat island effect and cooling demand, and commissioning of all major systems.  Renovations will also bring Sanford Hall into compliance with ADA and current code standards.
