Aquatics Center
Challenge
For years, Shenendehowa Central School District’s swim and diving teams traveled to area pools for practices and competitions, never having a facility they could truly call home. The district envisioned an aquatics center that would strengthen its athletic programs while expanding opportunities for physical education, water safety instruction, and community recreation. Designed in collaboration with a nationally recognized aquatic consultant, the goal was to create a signature facility that would serve students, families, and the broader Clifton Park community for generations.
Results
The new Aquatics Center established a permanent home for Shenendehowa’s swimming and diving programs while creating one of the region’s premier aquatic facilities. The eight-lane competition pool features a movable bulkhead for multiple competition configurations, a dedicated diving well with four competitive diving boards, and seating for 500 spectators. Throughout the school day, the facility supports swimming instruction for elementary, middle, and high school students, while evenings and weekends provide opportunities for lap swimming, aquatic fitness, swim lessons, lifeguard training, and other community programs. More than a competition venue, the Aquatics Center has become a shared community resource that promotes athletic achievement, water safety, lifelong wellness, and school pride.
—“It is a gem of an aquatics center. It is the nicest facility in Upstate New York.”
