New Transportation Center
Challenge
As Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District continued to grow, its transportation department had outgrown a facility built in 1957 for a much smaller fleet. Designed to service just 10 buses, the aging building no longer supported the district’s fleet of approximately 70 buses that safely transport more than 3,100 students each day. Undersized service bays, deteriorating maintenance areas, and limited space reduced operational efficiency and made it difficult for mechanics to safely maintain today’s larger vehicles. The district sought a modern transportation center that would improve safety, streamline operations, and support the dedicated staff responsible for keeping students on the road.
Results
The new 17,000-square-foot Transportation Center provides a safe, efficient workplace designed to support the district’s transportation operations well into the future. Modern service bays equipped with vehicle lifts allow mechanics to safely perform maintenance on the entire fleet, while new offices, training space, storage, and support areas improve daily operations and collaboration. Site improvements, including new paving and a fuel station, further enhance efficiency and fleet management. More than a replacement facility, the Transportation Center represents an investment in the people and infrastructure that make learning possible by ensuring students are transported safely, reliably, and efficiently every day.
